“Winter in Lapland Blog: In Pictures and Text.”
“Photography has always been a passion of mine, and having the opportunity to spend more time in Lapland, I naturally brought along my camera gear. With the extended winter here in Lapland, I’ve been filling my time capturing moments through the lens. So far, I haven’t had the chance to photograph the Northern Lights. The Lapland landscape is exactly as I remember it from my childhood—plenty of snow, tranquil tundra walks with the only sound being the distant chirping of birds enjoying the sunny weather. The mountains and valleys here are breathtaking. Due to the presence of mountains, the weather can vary significantly. The differences in altitude bring about changing weather patterns. I truly enjoy witnessing nature in this raw form, which I can share with you through my photographs. Currently, I’m adding pictures taken in November. There’s so much to capture in nature’s snapshots. Sometimes, I take along a warm drink and simply go with the flow of nature. My own eyes light up with the different lights and shadows.”

These pictures were taken in Lapland during the aurora borealis phenomenon between 20:30 and 22:45. What I love most is how different and rapidly changing the auroras are each time. Sometimes the sky might be completely uniform in color, while other times, various shapes and subtle to strong tones may appear.”

Lapland’s summer offers a wealth of fascinating experiences, boasting an extremely diverse and beautiful natural environment. Particularly enchanting is being in places where reindeer roam freely—on streets, in forests, and across mountains. Birds sing beautifully, rivers flow, and everywhere resonates the harmonious chorus of nature.
Summer in Lapland holds a special allure due to the phenomenon of the midnight sun. The sun never fully sets during the polar nights, creating perpetual daylight. This establishes a magical atmosphere and allows for long days of active exploration.
Saariselkä stands as one of the most popular destinations in Lapland. This area offers excellent hiking trails and opportunities to discover the beauty of nature. Among Saariselkä’s prominent landmarks are the Urho Kekkonen National Park and Pyhä-Luosto National Park. Both parks are fantastic for hiking, nature observation, and observing reindeer and other wildlife.
In addition to hiking trails, Saariselkä hosts several nature centers providing more information about the region. These centers offer insights into Lapland’s ecosystem, indigenous culture, and history. They provide necessary information and guidance for hikes and various educational programs.
The nature centers in Saariselkä typically feature diverse exhibitions, interactive activities, and guided tours. Additionally, they introduce visitors to Sami culture and traditions, educating them about this unique region. These centers serve as excellent starting points for embarking on a Lapland adventure and gaining a deeper understanding of the area.
Summer in Lapland is a truly magical time, allowing for reindeer encounters, appreciation of nature’s beauty, and uninterrupted daylight. The nature centers in and around Saariselkä are wonderful places to immerse yourself in Lapland’s abundant natural beauty and experience its uniqueness.”
